Shunsuke Yamada

Shunsuke is an entrepreneur and investor active in both Silicon Valley and Japan. He moved to the U.S. in 2015 and immersed himself in the startup ecosystem, gaining hands-on experience in the Silicon Valley entrepreneur community. As a freelance engineer, he built over 50 products—learning from repeated trial and error. In January 2020, he developed and launched the online calling app Remotehour in just two weeks. As demand for remote work surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, Remotehour quickly gained traction. The app was accepted into Pioneer, the accelerator led by Daniel Gross, in March of the same year. In October, he graduated from LAUNCH, the accelerator run by early Uber investor Jason Calacanis, and later secured funding from Calacanis himself. Shunsuke went on to co-found Retreat, a platform for managing offsite projects, aiming to help companies reshape corporate culture in the remote work era. Retreat has raised $2.2 million USD (approx. ¥320 million) from notable investors including Andreessen Horowitz’s Scout Fund, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Capital, and CyberAgent Capital.
